Immigrant Struggles in the South

Alabama Residents Speak Out

A new report out by the Southern Poverty Law Center called Alabama's Shame: HB 56 and the War on Immigrants, documents
stories from Alabama residents, many of them immigrants, about how HB 56 has changed their lives. HB 56 is the bill passed in
Alabama in an attempt to regulate immigration in the state.

I produced this series of multimedia pieces for SPLC to tell these stories:

New Immigrants in the Southeast

In 2009, the Southern Poverty Law Center published a report on the experience of immigrants in the southeast. I was the lead
researcher for the SPLC report, Under Siege: Life for Low-Income Latinos in the South. I produced this audio slideshow series
from the interviews I collected for the project to present voices of people we don't often hear from in the public debate.
(The slideshows can also be viewed at: www.weareamericastories.org)

"A Day en El Campo" (below) was selected for screening at the 2011 Women and Minorities in Media Festival.
