Stories of Protest in Arizona
On April 19, the Arizona Congress passed Senate Bill 1070 allowing local police to enforce federal immigration law by detaining anyone suspected of being in the country illegally. It is the most controversial immigration bill that any state has enacted. On April 23, it was signed into law by Governor Jan Brewer and will begin enforcement later this summer.
